13th April 2024 - Planned work is about to start on the War Memorial as part of the "masterplan project".

A metal srcreen barrier and a tower scaffold have been erected around the War Memorial.

Work to restore the monument will take place during the coming weeks and will include cleaning, pointing and repairs to the existing lettering.

In addition to this work  nineteen names missing names will be added.   These names have been carefully researched and agreed with representatives of the Royal British Legion.

The restoration will be carried out by approved trade persons specialising in such work.

During this period watch out for colourful images on display around the monument which have been produced by the pupils of St Bartholomews Primary School in Great Harwood. 

9th May 2024 - work has started to dismantle the upper sections of scaffold which has surrounded the monument for the past weeks to reveal the restoration work which has been carried out.  The cleaning process has allowed the original lettering to be clearly seen and the monmument itself once again a true recognition to those who served our country.

During the coming weeks the missing names will be added.

May 2024 - the 12 flower beds which surround the cenotaph have been re designed and reduced to 4 corner plots.  Although the planting area has been reduced overall it is hoped the new planting scheme will add to the ambience and tranquility of the area.

June 23rd 2024 - Work is now complete on the town's Cenotaph  The protective barriers have been removed to reveal the momoment in all its glory.  Work has included cleaning of the stonework. joint pointing using lime motor, civil works to the foundations, major restoration work to the surrounding paths, repairs to the existing lettering  and the addition of 19 missing names.
