Snowdrop Corner

Originally one of the parks "putting green lawns", whips had been planted and allowed to grow without any interference over several years.   In September 2008, a concerned parent had approached FoMP members after their child had discovered a discarded syringe in the dense wooded area. Further investigation revealed several pieces of household furniture and the remains of a camp fire.  Following discussions with the Council it was agreed to work in partnership and clear the area of these unwanted items and thin out the wooded area.

On 28th February 2009, 43 willing volunteers gathered to plant 11,000 snowdrop bulbs.  These had been purchased in the green from "Cambo Estates" in Scotland at a cost of £1000.  These plants had been funded from a £500 Green Partnership Award, £400 donation from Great Harwood and District Women's Institute and £100 from the groups own funds.

Snowdrop Corner now puts on a wonderful show each February and attracts many visitors to the park.

17th March 2024 

Shortly after planting the snowdrops, approx 12 wild primrose plants were donated and planed by the group.  Nature has allowed these plants to flourish and are currently giving a magnificent display of yellow in snowdrop corner.  A few blue bells are also starting to appear.
