On the North side of the park you will find 8 walled trees. These are believed to be the oldest trees in the park and thought to have been planted when the park was originally laid out over 100 years ago
During the recent works, years of unwanted and invasive growth has bee removed from the lower part of some of these trees. It is the first time they have been visible to park walkers for many years.
As part of the project some of the stone walls will be rebuilt.
Further into "snowdrop corner" the remaims of a 3 of these walled trees which are in very poor condition. The stones used to constuct the sides of the walled tree pits remain and it is hoped that a separate project can be funded so that these walls can be rebuilt and a new trees planted for future generations.
March 2024 - Wades contracors have now started to rebuild some of the walled trees.
